How Many Days to Cross the Nullarbor?

It's about 2,700 kilometres from Perth to Adelaide by the most direct route, and about 1,200 of those are the Nullarbor crossing itself — the Eyre Highway between Norseman and Ceduna. How long it takes depends on how far you're happy to drive each day, and how much you want to stop and see.

How many days?

Norseman to Ceduna: two long days at the very least, but three is far more comfortable and leaves time for the Bunda Cliffs and the Head of Bight.
Perth to Adelaide: four long driving days is about the minimum; five or six days is a relaxed pace; allow a week or more if you want to explore along the way.

Plan your days around daylight. Kangaroos, wombats, emus and stock are most active around dawn and dusk, and hitting one is a common way for a trip to end early. Aim to finish each day's driving well before sunset — and remember that heading east you lose up to two and a half hours to the time zones.

Most roadhouses along the way have motel rooms or caravan sites. Book ahead, especially in school holidays and during the whale season, and check each town page for details.
